  • General note

John Verge started plans for this house in 1830 for engineer surveyor John Busby (1765-1857). The house was completed in 1837 for the then owner Hamilton Collins Sempill. This watercolour shows the view to the north-west from Macleay Street (or Woolloomooloo Road as it was then known). The gates and circular drive were large enough to allow a horse-drawn carriage to make a full turn were the main entrance to the villa.
