Eve Langley (1908-1974) was born in Australia and moved to New Zealand in 1932 where she married Hilary Clark. She is best known for her novel 'The Pea Pickers', published in 1942. A companion novel, 'White Topee', followed in 1954. Langley wrote a considerable number of poems. Some of these were published in The Bulletin's Red Page which was edited for twenty years by Douglas Stewart. - Scope and ContentThe album includes 17 letters from Eve Langley in New Zealand to Douglas Stewart ("Dearest Dhas"), 1938-1942, 1951; 4 letters from Gloria Rawlinson to Douglas Stewart reporting on Langley's welfare, 1947-1951; 2 letters from New Zealand author and editor Alan Mulgan to Douglas Stewart, 1948; 1 letter from Harry Chaplin to Eve Langley, 1954; 1 letter and a note from Eve Langley to Harry Chaplin, 1956; 9 typed poems by Eve Langley, one with ms annotations possibly by Douglas Stewart.
