  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Ecclesbourne at 17 Ocean Avenue, Double Bay [Darling Point], was built by Thomas Whistler Smith and sold to James Norton in the 1850s. Norton undertook extensive additions to the house and established gardens. He married Harriott Mary, eldest daughter of Thomas Walker and Anna Elizabeth Walker (nee Blaxland). The house was later used as a private hotel and boarding house in the 1960-1970s. It was purchased by the Cancer Patients Assistance Society of NSW in 1978 and is currently being used to accommodate relatives and carers of cancer patients.
