The New Settlers' League of New South Wales was established in 1925. It foundered in the 1930s and some of its welfare activities were taken over by the British Settlers' Welfare Committee. Revived after World War II, the New Settlers' League of New South Wales continued to operate under this name until, in April 1956, it decided to adopt the name Good Neighbour Council of Australia, New South Wales Division. The Good Neighbour Council of Australia was established in 1950. The Council was an autonomous, non government body, funded by the Commonwealth Government, which coordinated the work of volunteers from various churches, welfare organisations and community groups who aimed to assist immigrants to settle in Australia. - Scope and ContentMinute book labelled 'Book no. 2, 12.2.52-11.12.57'.
