  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Jimmy Sharman Snr., born at Narellan, NSW, won fame as a southpaw lightweight boxer, winning 83 of his 84 professional fights, all by knock out. He established the Sharman Boxing Troupe which travelled agricultural shows all over eastern Australia for 45 years, including, most famously, the Royal Easter Show, where the Troupe became the institution of Sideshow Alley. His son Jimmy Sharman Jnr. began working for his father in 1945. Though he excelled at team sports, Sharman Jnr. was not a boxer. He took over the running of the Troupe in 1958 when his father retired. The Troupe continued until 1971 when changes in government laws made the continuation of tent boxing uneconomical. Sharman Jnr. continued to work the show circuit with a dodgem car business. He eventually gave up travelling and set up business at the Grundy Entertainment Centre at Surfer's Paradise. Sharman Jnr.'s son, Jim (James David) was born in 1945 and became a film and stage director
