  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Wanda Radford, an acclaimed child prodigy, was born in South Australia in 1902. At age 10, she was reciting Shakespeare in London and was hailed as a `Wunderkind' following a series of recitals in Berlin before World War I. She performed the lead role in Beerbohm Tree's London theatre production of Oliver Twist and later studied at the Paris Conservatorium. Her promising career seems to have foundered during the war years.
Sydney Ure Smith was founder of Art in Australia and Home magazine. As artist and illustrator, he contributed illustrations to the Bulletin, Lone Hand and also illustrated some novels. He was President of the Society of Artists (1921-1948), and a Trustee of the Art Gallery of NSW (1927-1947).
