This map was the first separately issued publication to show the spread of settlement in Sydney. The information was based on a plan prepared for Governor Hunter in 1796 by the Deputy Surveyor-General, Charles Grimes and by Matthew Flinders' charts of the coastline around Port Jackson and Georges River. - Scope and ContentCadastral map showing plots of land and plot numbers. Relief shown by hachures and soundings. Includes list of landholders arranged by district. Includes George Bass' discovery of coal at Coalcliff, 5 Aug. 1797. Shows Martins Islands in Illawarra, Sandy Point (Sandon Point), Tom Thumbs Lagoon and Canoe River at the southern extremity of the map.
