William Baltzer (1859-1948), a German immigrant, architect and civil engineer was instrumental in the development of reinforced concrete in Australia. He worked for Carter Gummow & Co and in 1896 designed the two Annandale aqueducts. He died at Blackheath (N.S.W.) in December 1948 - Scope and ContentPapers include a scrapbook of photographs of concrete structures in Australia (built using reinforced concrete); an exercise book of formulae concerning weight bearing and stress [n.d.]; 2 editions of product catalogues entitled Constructions in concrete-steel by Gummow, Forrest and Co., 1911 and [n.d.]; an Institution of Engineers lecture, entitled Genesis and development of reinforced concrete in Australia, 1922; certificate and letter of naturalisation for Wilhelm Baltzer, 1884; Marriage certificate for William Baltzer and Lottie Fairhall, 1895; 3 handwritten pages of notes on the Monier system of reinforced concrete and how Baltzer developed his theories; a newspaper clipping regarding aqueducts designed by W.J.
