    Attributed to Pickering from: Photographs of public and other buildings etc / ... the negatives were taken by Mr Charles Pickering ... New South Wales : Thomas Richards, Government Printer, 1872 (PXD 524 p.97)
    Another 5 photographs taken from different angles, including one by photographer Henry King, with portrait of Rev. William Bradley and listing of church services, held at SPF/49a-e (carte de visite, 6.3 x 10.4 cm. and 10.4 x 6.3 cm.)

  • Date note

    Sydney Harbour Foreshore Conservation Management Plan (2005) - "Figure 36 - Mariners' Church c.1860, a year after its construction. Archives state the date of the photo as 1871; this appears to be incorrect, the pipes are sewerage pipes ... Laying the pipes was completed in the Rocks in 1861 which would date the photo between February 1859 and 1861. The fence line at the right of the photo also appears to predate the extension of Bethel Street which was completed in about 1865."
