- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
William Sandford, 1840-1932, arrived in New South Wales in 1883. In 1886 he hired the Eskbank iron Works at Lithgow which he bought in 1894. He was the first in Australia to manufacture steel from an open hearth furnace and was interested in the question of tariffs and subsidies for industry. In Jan. 1908 he sold the Lithgow plant. - Related Material
