  • General note

Reference: Australian Walkabout / selected by Brian McArdle & Peter Fenton -- Melb. : Lansdowne, 1968
  • Date note

Date taken from the back of the photograph is usually accurate. Date taken from photograph mount is usually a purchase or filing date; not necessarily the date of photograph which is often earlier. Walkabout used several numbering series further complicating the dating of photographs. The pre-1950 photographs may date back to the 1930s although the earliest recorded date seems to be about 1941. Dates may be adjusted where there is clear evidence in or from the photograph. Additional information has often been taken from duplicate copies. -- R. Woodley, Cataloguer, Nov 2001
