    Harry Arthur Strachan began his career in theatre as a call boy at the Theatre Royal in Sydney in 1926. From 1926, Strachan had a succession of jobs with J. C. Williamson Ltd, including treasurer at Her Majesty's Theatre in Pitt Street and manager of the Criterion Theatre in Sydney. And undertook a number of Australian and New Zealand tours.

    Strachan made his first trip overseas in the company of Sir Frank and Lady Tait, in 1956. In 1958 he was appointed as the New South Wales General Manager of J. C. Williamson Theatres Ltd, and in March 1963 he was appointed as General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, made a director of the board, and moved to Melbourne to work alongside Sir Frank Tait and John McCallum.

    Harry Strachan resigned in 1971, following the merger with Edgely and Dawe, and in 1972 returned to Sydney to live and begin a role as House Manager of the Sydney Opera House.

    He was married to Muriel Mary.
