  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Eugene Masszauer was born in 1905 in Hungary. As a result of World War II in Europe, he fled Hungary and was relocated by The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) in occupied Germany before emigrating to Australia in 1950. He was then sent to a internment camp in Bathurst, later granted permanent residency and became a naturalised Australian citizen in 1952. Masszauer then moved to Sydney where he studied and worked as an electrical engineer and contractor. Eugene Masszauer was interviewed and recorded as part of the oral history 'Thirty Years After Project' in 1981.

    Collection consisting of personal papers, correspondence, administrative and travel documents relating to the relocation and emigration of Eugene Masszauer from Hungry to Australia between ca. 1943 and 1950, and his subsequent life as an Australia citizen. Includes transcripts of an oral history interview with Eugene Masszauer recorded in 1981, miscellaneous printed material, objects, and photographs of Eugene Masszauer and his extended family, ca. 1939 - ca. 1982.
