  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Fuller's Bridge Residents Association was formed in 1939, following petition for light and power and deputation to a Ryde Council. The name was later changed to Fuller’s Bridge Progress Association. Fullers Bridge comprises the area bounded by the Lane Cove River from the Bridge to Epping Highway. It includes, CSIRO, the cemetery and Lane Cove National Park. It is known as the Riverdale Estate. It was through the efforts of the Progress Association that this area was finally excluded from future development for parks and open spaces. Development as a residential area then began to take place, including developments to Fuller’s Bridge.

Fullers Bridge was built in 1918 wand was a long anticipated element of public infrastructure, shaping the history of the Willoughby and Lane Cove areas. It provided permanent access across the Lane Cove River when road routes linking these areas were few and far between. The bridge is a good example of a continuous beam reinforced concrete bridge constructed prior to 1925.
