  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Rev. Robert Owen Evans (b. 1937), minister of the Uniting Church in Australia and amateur astronomer, holds the all-time record for visual discoveries of supernovae. Evans was born in Sydney, and graduated from the University of Sydney. He majored in philosophy and modern history.

    From a religious family, was ordained a Methodist minister by the New South Wales Conference in 1967. He served as a circuit minister until his retirement in 1998.

    His father, Obed David Evans (1889-1975), was a botanist at the National Herbarium of New South Wales from 1959.
