  • General note

    The lithograph is tipped into the front of a manuscript letterbook, 1834-1856, compiled by Rev. John Saunders, a Baptist Minister and temperance advocate, who was in Sydney, 1834-1847.

    The fighting couple in this image, and the child, also appear in John Carmichael's etching "Male and Female Black Natives", which was published in James Maclehose's "Picture of Sydney; and Stranger's Guide in New South Wales", Sydney 1838.
