Theo Purcell recorded Sydney and her suburbs from the air from 1928 to 1935. Although he was an insurance surveyor, his aerial photographs were sold under the name Special Press Photos and published in the Sydney Morning Herald, Evening News, Sunday News, Sydney Mail and Home magazine.
Purcell's aerial images are usually sharp and clear for their day. Many are taken from low altitude. He photographed Sydney from Palm Beach to Cronulla, featuring images of the city, her landmarks and suburbs. -- Alan Davies, Curator of Photographs, Dec 2004
