• Scope and Content
  1. Natives fishing in a bark canoe. Titled beneath image. Inscribed lower left `New South Wales 1819'; at lower right `R. Browne Delt 27 Philip Street Sydney. On the reverse is inscribed, in different (and probably later) hands, `I. Hope / Southampton' and `Mr Slade'
  2. Mimora. On the reverse is inscribed, in different (and probably later) hands, `I. Hope / Southampton' and `Mr Middleton'
  3. Pussey Cat. On the reverse is inscribed, in different (and probably later) hands, `I. Hope / Southampton' and `Mr Richard Pullman'
  4. Long Jack. On the reverse is inscribed, in different (and probably later) hands, `I. Hope / Southampton' and `Mrs Butterworth, Newcastle, New S Wales'
  5. Wambella. On the reverse is inscribed, in different (and probably later) hands, `I. Hope / Southampton' and `Mr William Wheaton'

• General note
  
  `Natives fishing in a bark canoe' is the only work titled, signed and dated. The dating of the other works is from comparison to similar drawings in the collection. The works have also been drawn on Whatman paper dated 1813
  
  `Ginatoo (Pussey Cat) was a well known female Aborigine who lived in Sydney ... She was murdered by Wawyanee a native of the Five Islands'.
  
  `Burgon (Long Jack) was a native chief of the Newcastle tribe one of the Aborigines that Browne most often portrayed ... Many of the drawings depict him as a warrior with spear, shield and club, one protrays him as a `Celebrated Fisherman of New South Wales'.
