  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Clyde Robert Cameron (1913- ), trade unionist and politician, was born at Murray Bridge, South Australia. He was Secretary of the South Australian Branch of the Australian Workers' Union, 1941-1949, Federal Vice President, 1942-1950 and President of the South Australian Branch, 1956. He was Federal member for Hindmarsh, 1949-1980. During the Whitlam Labor Government, Cameron served as Minister for Labour, 1972-1974, Minister for Labour and Immigration, 1974-1975, and Minister for Science and Consumer Affairs, 1975. He was awarded the Order of Australia for service to politics and government in 1982.
