    Letter to D.S. Mitchell from Thomas Whitley, dated 9 Nov. 1898, regarding copies made of the manuscript George Bruce dictated to Whitley and verification of facts and biographical information.
    "The most. Wonderful. Adventrs [i.e. adventures] of a man ..." [119 pages]
    George Bruce relates his experiences in the Bay of Islands, where, as possibly the first white resident, he was tattooed and married the daughter of the chief, Te Pahi. Bruce describes Maori customs and lifestyle, lists ships visiting New Zealand, and elaborates on his religious beliefs.

    This copy, made by Thomas Whitley, is a transcript of the original manuscript, dictated by George Bruce and pre-dates the 1898 letter at the beginning of the volume.
    Some of the text appears in a different hand.
    Some pages have been added into the volume and are smaller in size.
