  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    This scrapbook was presented by Charles McArthur King to his sister Elizabeth King in October 1847. Phillip Parker King of Gippsland, Victoria, gave it to Miss Dorothy Butler-Walsh who in turn gave it to Mary E. King (a grand-daughter of Charles McArthur King) in c.1967. The scrapbook appears to have then passed to the present vendor, who was also a King family descendant
  • Scope and Content
    The scrapbook contains a number of drawings (both European and Australian), autographs, poems, silhouette portraits, and pasted-in prints. Many of the contributors are King family members.

    Copies of family research on the scrapbook and its provenance, some compiled by Mary King, which identify signatures and scenes in it, are filed with the book.
    Photocopies of notes identifying people mentioned in the scrapbook have been removed from it, and filed separately. They have been given the same page number as the item to which they refer i.e. a note referring to something on page 65 will be marked page 65a.
