Michael Dickinson (1947-1994) was a Sydney architectural critic, writer and design columnist for The Bulletin magazine. He studied architecture at Sydney University and graduated in 1969. He completed a master of commerce degree at University of NSW in 1979. He wrote about design and planning issues for the Times on Sunday and the National Times, and later for the Sydney Morning Herald, the Bulletin and the Sydney Review. At the time of his death he was design editor of Belle magazine and Corporate and Office Design. In 1985, he was one of the three finalists who proposed designs to save the Capitol Theatre, which lead to a heritage order being put on the building and its redevelopment today. In the early 1990s, Mr. Dickinson and former Sydney City Councilor and environmental lawyer Mr. Michael Mobbs edited a newsletter on planning issues called Agenda. His knowledge of urban planning issues earned him a place on the Prime Minister’s Urban Design Task Force.
