  These drawings were in the possession of a Hargrave family descendant. Edward Hargrave and his brother John (father of Lawrence Hargrave) emigrated to Australia in 1856. Claxton's wife, Sophia, was a Hargrave.

  The self portrait of Marshall Claxton is inscribed beneath it in pencil "to Edward Hargrave Esqr." and on the reverse in another hand in ink "I tell M. this was like him 20 years since he looks much thinner & older"
