  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    William James Bradley (1881-1957), lawyer and barrister was son of Michael Bradley, builder, and Bridget Clerkins. He married Coralie Viola Maloney Goold on 25 January 1922. He studied Law at Sydney University graduating in 1915 and president of Sydney University Union from 1917-1918. He worked in the Crown Solicitors Office from 1917-1918. In 1919, he was admitted to the NSW Bar was awarded King's Counsel (KC) in 1934. From 1926-1937 he was appointed lecturer and examiner of Commercial and Industrial Law at Sydney University

    Bradley served in the Australian Military Forces from 1912-1942. From 1939-1942 he served in 24TH Battalion A.M.F. as captain 1916, unattached list in 1921, on reserve in 1926, and in the Australian Army Legal Corps from 1939-1942, on reserve from 1942-1945.

    He also served in Local Government as member of the Sydney City Council for Fitzroy Ward, 1937-1948. Member of the City Council's Finance Committee 1938-1942 and 1944-1947; the Electricity Committee 1938-1939 and 1941-1942; the City Planning and Improvements Committee 1938-1941 and 1943-1948; and the Markets Committee 1942-1943. He also served in Parliament as member of the NSW Legislative Council 1940-1949.
