Marshall Best succeeded Ben Huebsch as Patrick White's editor at Viking Press, New York. He had semi-retired by the early 1970s but still took great interest in White's work. When Patrick White was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1973 Best wrote to him '... thanks for giving me the greatest pleasure of this lifetime of publishing.' (22 October 1972) - Scope and Content1. Letters received by Marshall Best from Patrick White, 1966-1981: White writes about the progress of his work, reviews of his books, other writers and their work, the books he is reading, political events, the Nobel Prize, the Patrick White Literary Award, domestic life with Manoly Lascaris, cooking, pets, illnesses, travels, etc.
