  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Lucy Butler was born in Tasmania in 1852 and met her husband, Edwin Bean, in 1873. They were married in 1876 and at the end of 1877 went to live in Bathurst, New South Wales where Edwin Bean took up the post of headmaster of All Saints' College. With their three small children they sailed for Europe in 1888 because of Edwin Bean's poor health. In 1891 he took up the headmastership of Brentwood Grammar School in Essex, England. The family returned to Australia and lived in Tasmania in 1913. Edwin died in 1922
