Captain Francis Irvine of the 11th Bengal Native Infantry arrived in Port Jackson in June 1820. His wife, Frances Sophia (Fanny) and children accompanied him - Scope and Content1820-1821; the letters relate family news and describe conditions in the colony. Captain Irvine sought a land grant and was interviewed by Governor Lachlan Macquarie shortly after his arrival. He purchased a property, Ellerslee, on the Nepean River, and bought sheep from John Macarthur and William Howe
