  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Ellen Hope is the wife of G. A. Hope, a descendant of Rev. Thomas Hassall (1794-1868) and his wife Ann (d.1885), nee Marsden. Marianne Hassall (1827-1911), daughter of Thomas and Ann Hassall, married George Hope (1814-1884) in 1852 at St. Paul's Church, Cobbitty, NSW. Marianne and George Hope lived at 'Darriwill' on the Moorabool River near Geelong, Victoria. Marianne and George Hope had nine children at 'Darriwill' and members of the Hope family still lived at 'Darriwill' in 2001.

    1985; 1994; Hope and Hassall family histories, being typescript and typescript photocopies of family trees compiled by Ellen Hope in 1985 with amendments made in 1994. A note states that the family trees have been compiled from secondary sources. Also included is a brief description of the Hope Collection, being papers, letters and diaries of the Hope family, including papers concerning the Hassall family.     The Hope and Hassall family histories accompany microfilm copies of family papers, being diaries, letters and financial records of the Hope and Hassall families, 1849-1907, presented by the G. A. & E. Hope in 1985 and 1994. The microfilm copies of the family papers, are located at MAV/FM4/6219-6223.
    The Hope and Hassall family histories accompany copy photoprints of Hassall, Hope, Waugh and Oxley families, being copies of late nineteenth century photographs, presented by G. A. & E. Hope in 1994.
