Ellen Hope is the wife of G. A. Hope, a descendant of Rev. Thomas Hassall (1794-1868) and his wife Ann (d.1885), nee Marsden. Marianne Hassall (1827-1911), daughter of Thomas and Ann Hassall, married George Hope (1814-1884) in 1852 at St. Paul's Church, Cobbitty, NSW. Marianne and George Hope lived at 'Darriwill' on the Moorabool River near Geelong, Victoria. Marianne and George Hope had nine children at 'Darriwill' and members of the Hope family still lived at 'Darriwill' in 2001.

A note states that the family trees have been compiled from secondary sources. Also included is a brief description of the Hope Collection, being papers, letters and diaries of the Hope family, including papers concerning the Hassall family.
