Aged 24, Hope McPhee arrived in Hyderabad, India in 1932 to teach at St George's Grammar School, a large complex of Preparatory Boys' and Girls' Schools run by the Anglican Church and staffed by missionaries of the Church Missionary Society of Australia. In 1984 McPhee recovered the letters she had written to her family about her two years at the school, her social life, and holidays in Bangalore, Bombay, Delhi and Simla.
