  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Stephan Moor was born in Budapest in 1915 though his family was German. He studied painting and stained glass painting at the Academy of the Arts in Budapest. During the 1940s he worked as an art teacher at the German School in Budapest. In 1941 he was conscripted in to the army where he served until 1945 when he and his parents then fled to Vienna.
    From 1945 until 1950 he lived in Stuttgart, Germany and worked as a stained glass artist. He had married Edith Hoffmann in 1947 and he and his wife migrated to Australia in 1950. In Sydney he founded his own studio, Ars Sacra, in South Strathfield. He divorced and married three times, and retired in 1991.
    Stephan Moor's work is included in many catholic churches in Sydney and can be seen in the Anglican Cathedral in Rockhampton, the Prince Henry Hospital Chapel Sydney, St Mary's Cathedral in Hobart, St Francis Xavier Church in Lavendar Bay North Sydney.
