  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Brian Bird was a commercial and public relations photographer who concentrated on photography of people. He photographed the social pages for Vogue magazine, using available light, from 1967 until around 1980.

Trained as a fashion and press photographer, Bird arrived in Australia from London in the early 1960s. It is thought that Bird photographed the Lincoln Café during the years 1948-1951 which suggests a possible earlier visit to Australia. He worked for Sydney fashion photographers Russell Roberts and Geoff Lee, as well as a short time on newspapers, before freelancing from the studios of Maurice O’Connell, Rob Slayter, Malcolm Homes and Ray Leighton.

From the mid 1970s, Bird had some success as an actor for the Rocks Players, New Theatre and the Eastern Suburbs Musical Society. He died in December 2001.
