  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sydney Smith was born in 1880. He joined the NSW Public Service in 1902 and rose to be chairman of the Local Lands Board under the Western Lands Act. However he is best known as a cricket administrator and was secretary of the Australian Board of Control for International Cricket from 1911 to 1926. He managed the successful Australian tours of South Africa and England in 1921, and of England in 1926. He was also president of the NSW Cricket Association from 1935 to 1966. As a cricketer he played grade cricket for Petersham and Gordon. He died in 1972.
