    Charles Alfred Gordon Lillingston was born in 1857 at Southwold, England. He was educated in England and at the French School of Forestry at Nancy, France. He served in the Forestry Department of the Indian Civil Service for fourteen years. In 1888 Lillingston married Mabel Harriet, sixth daughter of the Hon. Edward David Stewart Ogilvie and Theodosia Ogilvie, of Yulgilbar Castle, Clarence River, NSW. Charles and Mabel Lillingston had three children, Jessie Mary Grey, Edward George Grey amd Evelyn Mabel Constance Lillingston. On Edward D. S. Ogilvie's death in 1896 Mabel Lillingston inherited a life interest in 'Yulgilbar' and the family moved to NSW to live at Yulgilbar Castle. Mabel Lillingston died in 1925 and Charles Lillingston returned to England in 1926. He married secondly, Mrs Jean Sawyer, a widow, in 1928. He died at Balmacara, Loch Alsh, Ross Shire Scotland in 1934.
