    Kenneth Whistler Street, chief justice and lieutenant governor of NSW, was born in 1890, son of Philip and Belinda Street. He was educated at Homebush Grammar School, Sydney Grammar School and the University of Sydney, where he graduated Bachelor of Arts in 1911 and Bachelor of Laws in 1914. He travelled to England in 1914 and when war broke out enlisted in 6th Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. He was declared unfit for active service and returned to Australia in 1915 where he enlisted in the AIF. He served as First Lieutenant of the German internment camp at Holdsworth NSW and on staff at General Headquarters in Melbourne, Victoria. Kenneth Street married Jessie Mary Grey Lillingston in 1916. There were four children of the marriage, Belinda Jessie Whistler, Philippa Lillingston Whistler, Roger Kenneth Whistler and Laurence Lillingston Whistler Street. Street was appointed judge in the Supreme Court of NSW in 1931 and chief justice of the court in 1950. He was appointed lieutenant governor in 1950 and held that position until his death. Street was appointed K.C.M.G. in 1956 and retired from the bench in 1959. Kenneth Street published 'Annals of the Street Family of Birtley' in 1941, a history of the Street family including detailed genealogical tables. Kenneth Street died in 1972, survived by his four children.
