The Constitutional Association of New South Wales, No. 1 Group was part of a larger organisation founded to promote and defend the Australian Constitution. Originally formed as the New South Wales Constitutional Association, the name was changed to Constitutional Association of New South Wales ca. 1931 and again, to Constitutional Association of Australia in 1956. No. 1 Group was formed as the Ryde-Epping-Beecroft Group ca. 1930, changing its name in 1937. The Group met monthly in member's homes and either heard a guest speaker or conducted a debate on a matter of political, business or international interest. Membership of the Group was limited to 21 men, new members being introduced and proposed to a selection committee when vacancies arose. Speakers at monthly meetings included prominent academics, politicians, foreign diplomats, businessmen and journalists. - Subject
