Fitzwilliam Turner emigrated to N.S.W. on the ship, Camperdown, which departed Great Britain on 18 March 1880 and arrived in Sydney Harbour on 9 June 1880. It carried English, Scots and Irish immigrants and was quarantined in on arrival until 10 July 1880 due the occurrence of measles on board during the voyage. The quarantine period was extended because of contact with the ship, Java, which was anchored next to the Camperdown. The Java was carrying smallpox. The passengers of the Camperdown were offered vaccination against smallpox but all refused - Scope and ContentContains description of daily life on board ship including food, work and entertainment
