Eileen and Joan Bradley lived in Mosman by what is now the Sydney Harbour National Park. From the late 1950s they worked on a five year study of the Superb Blue Wren, which was published by the Royal Ornithological Union of Australia.

In 1971 Joan published a book on bush regeneration, pioneering what became known as the Bradley Method of Bush Regeneration. This was a system for bringing back the bush by working from good bush towards badly infested areas.

The Bradley Bushland Reserve was dedicated to Eileen and Joan Bradley in 1983, and in 1984 the Friends of the Bradley Bushland Reserve was formed. June Gram became its President and it was successful in its application for Bicentennial funding. Five years after its formation the Friends of the Bradley Bushland Reserve officially opened the Bradley Bushland Reserve, a one hectare memorial to the Bradley sisters, providing a sealed all weather path from Middle Head Road to Alexander Avenue and to Rawson Oval. They also undertook extensive weeding and the propagation of plants from the Reserve to form a Bicentennial Walk.
