  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Kevin Ryan was born in Ipswich, Queensland in 1934. He played five rugby union tests for Australia and toured the British Isles with the Wallabies in 1957-58. He transferred to Rugby League in 1960 and played for St George in seven successive winning Grand Final teams. He toured with the Kangaroos in 1963-64. In 1965 he retired from representative football to concentrate on his legal studies. He was captain-coach of Canterbury-Bankstown 1967-69. In 1970 he was admitted as a barrister-at-law. He became a councillor, then mayor of Hurstville and from 1976 to 1984 was a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly. From 1990 to 1995 he was president of the Rugby League Players' Union.
  • Scope and Content
    This collection mainly comprises material relating to Kevin Ryan in his capacity as president of the Association of Rugby League Professionals known as The Rugby League Players Union. It includes material relating to industrial awards, contract negotiations, salary cap, super league, taxation, sponsorship, drug testing, player disputes, marketing, code of conduct, superannuation etc.

    This collection, part of the Tom Brock Collection, was originally housed in the Social Sciences & Humanities Library, University of NSW. It was transferred to the Mitchell Library in 2006.
