  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Nancy Bird Walton AO OBE, was born in 1915 and began flying lessons in 1933, obtaining a commercial flying licence in 1934 aged 19. She participated in various air races during the 1930s and was employed by the Royal Far West Children's Health Scheme to operate her aircraft as a Aerial Ambulance and Baby Clinic Service in western NSW. Nancy Bird Walton was Commandant of the Women's Air Training Corps from 1940-1945 and is the Founder, First President and Patron of the Women Pilots Association. Nancy Bird Walton has published two autobiographical works, 'Born to Fly', 1961, and 'My God! It's a Woman', 1990.
