Aarne Neeme was born in Germany in 1945 to Russian parents and came to Australia as a small child. Since 1969, he has been associated with many of the major theatre companies, acting schools and university drama departments in Australia. He directed eight works for the Nimrod Theatre Company including the premiere of Hamlet on Ice in 1971. He was resident director at the University of Western Australia 1969-1971, artistic director of the National Theatre 1973-1977 and artistic director of the Hole-in-the-Wall Theatre Company 1990-1991. - Scope and Content1997; Material on the history of the Nimrod Theatre, researched and prepared by Aarne Neeme.
