Sir Leslie Herron, chief justice, was born in 1902, son of Henry Herron and his wife Emily Ethel, nee Downie. He studied law at University of Sydney and was admitted to the Bar in 1925. He was appointed to the Supreme Court Bench in 1941 and was Chief Justice of New South Wales from 1962 to 1972. Herron was Lieutenant Governor of New South Wales from 1972 until his death in 1973.
