  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The boat shown is a Gladstone skiff, not a scull. The type was invented by Tom Stratton, of Stockton, Newcastle, NSW, circa 1895. An Australian innovation for the early training of scullers, the boat photographed is a decked-in variation, typical of Gladstone skiffs built on the northern rivers, devised by a Clarence River boat-builder.
