  • General note

Previously identified as Carrington Dock ca 1888, the Sutherland Dock was completed Mar 1890. Orlando left the Australian Station in 1897. After docking Auckland Jan 1889 she was due for redocking approximately every 6 months (reference: Ships on the Australian Station / J.Bastock). Bastock says her short funnels shown here were raised during a refit in Sydney. She was the first steel flagship, a vessel of some note, and her first docking in Sydney might attract some attention; as a result we now have quite a few photos of her in the Sutherland Dock (including those in the Tyrrell Collection, Powerhouse Museum) -- information supplied by John Jeremy (Aug 2005)
