    Catalogued using information collected during the New South Wales bicentennial copying of photographs project, 1986.
  • General note

    "Burning coals are dropped down the hollow log in centre. When burning it must be watched 24 hours a day for about 3 days, to stop fire breaking through the cover. If this occurs it must be covered immediately to stop the wood burning to ashes. When the burning is completed and the mound uncovered the charcoal has the same appearance in every detail as before it was lit except that it is black."
