Jonathan Evans was born in 1849; his birth was registered at Carmarthen, South Wales. He arrived in Australia ca 1869 and was ordained Deacon (Church of England) by the Bishop of Goulburn in 1873. He married Mary Sanger Creed of Melbourne (ca 1875) and they moved soon after to Tasmania where he was ordained priest by the Bishop of Tasmania in 1877. After incumbencies in parishes in Sydney and New Zealand (ca 1888-ca 1898) Evans returned to England (ca 1899) where he died in 1922.
