  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    During the 1930s the Mountain Trails Club and the Sydney Bush Walkers took up leases to protect and conserve bushland at Miara and Morella Karong in the Heathcote area. In 1943, 712 acres were dedicated as Heathcote Primitive Area and managed by a Trust. Additions brought to 1578 hectares the area which was scheduled as Heathcote State park in 1967. In 1975, with an area of 2251 hectares, the name was changed to Heathcote National Park. Among the original trustees were James Somerville and Myles Dunphy
