Jackie Wurm graduated from a Bachelor of Arts Majoring in French and German with Anthropology and Philosophy in 1981. From 1982-1987, she studied Politics and Labor Studies at University of Adelaide.

Between 1983-1984, she served as President of the Student Association of the University of Adelaide and South Australian State Organiser for the Australian Union of Students. The Australian Union of Students grew out of the National Union of Australian University Students which was set up in 1936, and, in 1987, was succeeded by the National Union of Students as the peak representative body for Australian university students.

From 1984-1985, she was Education Officer at Workers Health Centre in Sydney, and Clerk to the Women’s Directorate in NSW Department of Industrial Relations and Employment 1985-1986. Between 1987-1990, she served as Student Activities Co-ordinator of East Sydney Technical College at NSW TAFE and at Gymea College of TAFE from 1986-1987.

From 1990-1993 she was Conference Organiser for the Environmental Defenders Office, NSW. She co-ordinated writing, editing and publishing of ‘Environment and the Law’ textbook for Legal Studies and other high school courses from 1991-1992.

Since 1994, she has been Consultant of NT Department of Lands Housing and Local Government and Lecturer in the School of Community Studies Bachelor College and Part Time Instructor at the School of Health Studies.
