    Douglas Hope Johnston was born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1874. He was the great grandson of Lieutenant-Colonel George Johnston who arrested Governor William Bligh in 1808 and assumed control of New South Wales. He was the founder of the Australian Pioneers' Club in Sydney and the New Zealand Founders' Society in Wellington. He died in 1957.
