  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

W.T.E. Bayley is the pseudonym of Heather M. Taylor (nee McDonald). Heather Taylor grew up outside the town of Urana, New South Wales, and in 1920 began to attend a local bush school with two teachers.

In 1975, with small country schools becoming a thing of the past, Taylor wrote to district newspapers all over Australia, asking for memories of people who knew the bush schools as pupils or teachers.

Heather Taylor's son-in-law, Garry Barnsley, allowed her to use his firm's post office box. The name Bayley was a corruption of Barnsley and Taylor, and the initials W.T.E. came from the name of the legal firm, Wilkinson Throsby and Edwards, at which Barnsley was a partner.
