The Sydney History Group was formed in 1975 by historians Jill Roe and Beverley Kingston. The Group aimed to further interest in Sydney's history by means of occasional seminars and related activities, and by the publication of original research. The group brought together academic and non-academic historians.

The Sydney History Group published seven books, in addition to compiling the Australian Register of Urban History Research. The Sydney Gazette was the annual publication of the Group.

The Sydney History Group concluded in 1995, on the Group's 20th anniversary.
